In Commemoration of Arbor Day celebration, the National Council of Enugu State Students(NACESS) World Wide partners with Yordel Africa to Plant 10 Million Trees Within 24 Months

Arbor Day (or Arbour in some countries) is a secular day of observance in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees. Today, many countries observe such a holiday. Though usually observed in the spring, the date varies, depending on climate and suitable planting season.

This year’s falls on 30th April, 2021

In a press conference with Yordel Africa, the leadership of the National Council of Enugu State Students in partnership with Yordel Africa addressed men of the press on the need to plant more trees.

In an event tagged “Championing Green World Project in Nigeria” the president of Yordel Africa Hon Godwin Ogenyi who is the former commissioner for Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction said that the aim is to plant nothing less than 10 million trees in Enugu State, Nigeria within twenty four months from kick of date which is scheduled to be on 6th May, 2021.

He said the program will be commissioned by the commissioners for environment, agriculture and culture and tourism, Executive Chairman; ENSUBEB and will be largely attended by well meaning indigenes of the state.

He used the opportunity to call on the government, interested individuals and NGOs to embrace the need to plant trees and queue in to take a sponsorship slot.

The Council’s leader Comr Onah J. Onyemaechi in his remark endorsed the program and assured the students of the council’s continuous commitment on student welfare and total support for the government of Governor Ugwuanyi.

He said that the project which the council is undertaking in conjunction with Yordel Africa will be beneficial to the entire state as planting of trees will be encouraged.

He said it will reduce erosion, desertion while it serves as vegetation, source of beauty to the state and encourage culture and tourism.

Others who endorsed and made positive contribution includes; Comr. Arum Sorpuluchukwu; NACESS Secretary General, Comr Enemoh Ikechukwu Chris; NACESS Welfare Director, Comr. Dr. Goodness Nwabueze; President Enugu Female Comrades Association, Sen. Michael Utazi amongst other student leaders.

Comr. Enemoh Ikechukwu Chris who made a specific pointed stated that tree planting, apart from saving lives and properties during erosions and flooding, ā€” also beatifies the environment, he endorsed the ideas of Hon. Godwin Ogenyi
