The arrest was made after two months of investigations following the exposure of the activities of the orphanage home, commonly referred to as a “baby factory.” In August 2023, security operatives, led by the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, uncovered illicit activities within the facility, prompted by a report from investigative journalist ‘Fisayo Soyombo.

The report raised allegations of illegal adoption involving a baby girl and one of the registered homes under the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. In response, the orphanage home was promptly sealed, and a total of 20 children, including a newborn, were rescued.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, officially handed over Rev. D.C. Ogo to NAPTIP officials in connection with the unlawful adoption practices. The case highlights the government’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking and illegal adoption schemes in the region.
