There have been arguments over circulating controversial videos on social media. Video of the Governor Elect of Abia State, Alex Otti who claims he would have won election without the influence of Peter Obi, and Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Chijioke Edeoga who tried to compare his experience with that of Peter Obi after being hit with question of competence, character, capacity and compassion.

Replies from the duo have seem more like they were trying to compare their competence and supposed popularity with that of Peter Obi.

Recall that Mr. Peter Obi had been to Abia State at least five times, since the commencement of electioneering, which after the presidential election, he also visited to endorse all the Labour Party candidates, especially the Governorship Candidate, Alex Otti.

On the other hand, Peter Obi had also been in Enugu State several times, though, seeing some viral videos, he seems to behave skeptical as to openly endorsing the Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga. One could see Edeoga struggling to take videos and pictures with Peter Obi even when he is clearly not readily admitting to that.

In their different opinions, they have tried to convince people not to see them in the shoes of Peter Obi, but to see them in their own capacity and experience, they may not have necessarily tried to oust Peter Obi but to bring people back to seeing them in their own selves.

Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti, says he would have won the election without the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, who later joined the party.

According to him, he won the 2015 election that produced Okezie Ikpazu as governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

Otti also revealed that he joined the Labour Party before Obi.

He disclosed this on Thursday night during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

The electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday declared Otti the winner of the March 18 poll.

Below are the statements made by Otti and Edeoga;

Otti said, “In 2015 when I ran under APGA, there was no Peter Obi. And we have it on our record that I won that election. At the time we were joining Labour Party, Peter Obi had not joined.

“It took about a week before he called me and said that he purchased the presidential nomination form and he was coming to Labour Party.

“We were prepared to fight the way we fought in 2015. The votes we garnered in Abia could have been had but maybe the margin could have been smaller.

“That is why it’s always good to acknowledge Peter Obi. He came to Abia about four or five times to campaign for us.

“I think he had done well for us. That is why even the first election out of the eight House of Representatives seats, we took six and sent some people on permanent retirement.

“Peter Obi is a great addition to our campaign, but I can tell you that we won an election before in Abia without him.”

In the case of Edeoga who was heavily knocked under competence and experience, he claimed to be more experienced than Peter Obi haven played politics since 1991, he said he has been in public service since 1991 and by then Peter Obi had not joined politics, he named some positions he had held as well, thereby childing peoples opinion that Peter Obi is widely supported because of competence and experience.

He also said, he became the council chairman and what have you but Peter Obi wasn’t even in PDP for one to say Peter Obi influenced all that, he said he got all these through his own capacity and strength.

Edeoga Said; “Peter Obi had not joined public service in 1997, I have been in public service since 1992 or 91 on a continuos basis, I was Press Secretary, by 97 I was elected Chairman, Council Chairman, elected on my own strength.

“I went to the House of Rep 1999. I am not trying to take away the difference but the question is; was Peter Obi in PDP when I became the person to beat?”
