Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme: I’m Maurice Emeka Akueme, President/Founder: The Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF)

Charity Reporters: Are you a philanthropist or a politician ?

Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme: I’m passionate about creating a better world so yes, you can say I’m a philanthropist. I’m not professionally involved in politics and also not yet a holder of an elected office, so you cannot say I’m a politician.

Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme: Lots of different things influenced my decision to start the foundation. The core motivator was the fact that I found (and still find) the inequality and injustices in the world overwhelming at times and wanted to do something proactive to help; Starting a charitable organisation seemed a good way to do that.

Charity Reporters: We also learnt that you founded a group known as Njiko4Gburus, this to us seem like a political organization; now, how do you explain this as a philanthropist ?

Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme: Njiko4Gburus – Njikokamma Movement For Gburugburu is basically a support group. It’s a way of showing appreciation, loyalty and support to the administration of our dear State Governor, Rt Hon Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

At the moment, we are building a 2 bedroom bungalow for a widow at Nenwenta in Awgu LGA. God willing, this project would be the kick  off for The MAF Housing Scheme.

In the future, I see MAF partnering with foreign investors with a view to attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) which will in turn provide massive opportunities for our teeming youths.

Charity Reporters: You have a lot of team members in Nigeria, are you proud of them ?

Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme: Actually, well over 300 team members all over the country. I’m very proud of them because everyone works so hard and understand that charity is not just about giving but also making a difference.
