Customs Seizes N398 Million Worth of Contraband in Ogun: Revenue Surges Over 400%

Customs Seizes N398 Million….

In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, made headlines by seizing 122 contraband goods valued at a staggering N398 million in the month of October. The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Amadu Shuaibu, shared this significant accomplishment during a briefing held at the Idiroko area of the state.

The contraband, comprising a variety of goods, underlines the persistent challenge of illicit trade that authorities are combatting. The successful interception of these goods not only reinforces the commitment of the Customs Service to curb illegal activities but also showcases the effectiveness of their operations.

Notably, the Ogun 1 Area Command also achieved a remarkable milestone in revenue generation during the same period. Through baggage assessment and auction sales of seized petroleum products, the command generated a substantial N30 million. This reflects an outstanding increase of N24,921,200.00, marking an impressive surge of over 400% when compared to the N5,487,076 revenue generated within the corresponding period last year.

Deputy Comptroller Amadu Shuaibu highlighted the dedication and diligence of the customs officials contributing to these achievements. The revenue generated not only speaks to the effectiveness of the command’s strategies in tackling smuggling and illegal trade but also underscores the economic impact of such operations.

The briefing did not only serve as a platform to announce these accomplishments but also as an opportunity to emphasize the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to upholding the integrity of trade and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests. The surge in revenue is a positive indicator of the agency’s ability to adapt and respond to the evolving landscape of illicit trade, showcasing its resilience in the face of challenges.
