Enugu Governor Advocates New Road Maintenance Approach for Enhanced Longevity

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has called for a fresh perspective on road maintenance to ensure better conditions and increased longevity for Nigeria’s roads. Expressing deep concern over the current system’s shortcomings, particularly evident in recent incidents, the Governor emphasized the urgent need for a more effective approach.

Governor Mbah’s call for a reevaluation of the road maintenance model comes in the wake of a bridge collapse near the New Artisan flyover and the NNPC Mega Station along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. While expressing gratitude that no lives were lost, he highlighted that this tragic event underscores the deficiencies in the existing maintenance system.

The proposed a collaborative approach, suggesting that the federal government should consider granting concessions of federal roads to state governments. This partnership, he believes, would facilitate more effective maintenance, leveraging the expertise of both government bodies and the private sector.
