FG Is Mishandling Mazi Nnamdi kanu’s Case – Lawyer

Subsequent to the Court of Appeal judgment discharging the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, last Thursday, Special counsel to Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, has bumped into the Federal Government for ‘abused’ the case.

The report made available to Charityreporters in Umuahia on Monday, Ejimakor said, “Nigeria’s disobedience of a 2018 decision of a continental tribunal on Kanu was the first ‘mishandling’.”

This was as the former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, cautioned in a tweet that Nigeria cannot afford any more ‘mishandling’ of the case, for the sake of safety and security of the nation.

In the statement, Ejimakor added, “The extraordinary rendition was the second, while putting Kanu on trial was the third.

“Disobeying the United Nations was the fourth and the likelihood of disobeying the judgment of the Court of Appeal will be the fifth”.

Ejimakor, therefore, called on “Nigerians of means and influence, and the international community to intervene in persuading Nigeria to promptly comply with the court order which discharged Kanu from all the criminal charges pending against him”.

On Thursday, October 13, the Appeal Court in Abuja cleared the IPOB leader of all the charges against him and consequently discharged him.

However, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubarkar Malami, said Kanu was only discharged, not acquitted, thus raising doubts concerning FG’s readiness to release Kanu.
