In an alarming turn of events, the Ondo State Consciousness Movement (OSCM) has expressed strong condemnation of the prolonged absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from office, highlighting the resulting disruption in governance. The group also criticized the ongoing power struggle between the governor and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, describing it as a detrimental proxy war.

The OSCM, through its chairman Shalom Olaseni, released a statement on Tuesday, outlining its concerns and raising questions about the impact of these political conflicts on the state’s citizens. The group particularly condemned the recent move by the Ondo State House of Assembly to impeach Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa and the subsequent suspension of the impeachment proceedings via a Federal High Court order.

According to Olaseni, “The recent events unfolding in Ondo State have plunged the state into a grave crisis, jeopardising good governance and the well-being of its citizens.” The absence of Governor Akeredolu due to alleged medical reasons has led to a significant slowdown in governance. During this period, Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has taken charge, showcasing competence and fairness in managing state affairs.

However, Aiyedatiwa’s commendable actions have been overshadowed by accusations of disloyalty to the Governor, leading to a series of political clashes. The OSCM emphasized that the internal strife and political tussle are diverting valuable resources and energy away from critical development efforts.

The sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party’s secretariat in the state further added to the tensions. The OSCM has called for a swift resolution of the crisis, urging all parties involved to prioritize the welfare and interests of the citizens.

As Ondo State grapples with these complex political challenges, citizens anxiously await a return to stability and effective governance.
