Mbah’s Hard-Earned Victory And Hypocrisy Of Double-Faced PDP Members

Mbah’s Hard-Earned Victory And Hypocrisy Of Double-Faced PDP Members

By Dr. Ude Ambrose

The 2023 general elections in Enugu state may have come and gone. The events that shaped it especially for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will always be referenced and remembered.

Not because PDP didn’t win any of the elections, but how their members who have been the greatest beneficiaries of the party and its government’s largesse and patronages in the last 24 years covertly and overtly worked against the party at the polls.

EnuguDecides:PDP’s Peter Mbah Wins Enugu Fiercely Contested Governorship Election

The sabotage and conspiracies of the PDP stakeholders and members which was massive, shocking and disheartening are unprecedented in the history of party politics and elections in Enugu State, especially in Enugu North Senatorial Zone, where Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi hails from.

While it is factual that some PDP members who felt aggrieved by the outcome of the PDP primaries that didn’t favour them or their preferred aspirants, left the PDP for the Labour Party, hoping to take advantage of Mr. Peter Obi’s presidential ambition to succeed, many PDP leaders and members pretentiously and hypocritically stayed back in the PDP and were hobnobbing with the Labour Party nocturnally and electronically via meetings, WhatsApp calls and messages.

These characters included political appointees, elected persons, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, permanent Secretaries and others who felt because their offices are tenured, they have nothing to lose sabotaging Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and PDP that made them.

Reasons for their sabotage against the PDP and Governor Ugwuanyi during elections were not far from personal envy, greed, clannishness, Ugwuanyi’s refusal to support ethnic succession plan that drove Barr. Chijioke Edeoga of Labour Party’s governorship ambition, accumulated anger against Governor Ugwuanyi for appointing some professionals into some lucrative positions to add value to his government.

These bunch of charlatans, called stakeholders who believed they owned PDP because they have been in the party for long did not want to see any other person coming into the government and party or benefiting from the party, except them and their cronies.

They erroneously saw everything about the party as their birthrights and personal belongings. These are professional politicians that had no means of living or addresses before joining politics. They believe and practice do-or-die politics.

They have this it-must-be-me or-my- people mentality at all times. They are never satisfied and can never be satisfied. They hardly survive outside the corridors of power.

Enugu 2023: Peter Mbah/Ossai To Replace Ugwuanyi/Ezeilo In Enugu State, What A Combination ?

They are ready to do anything to remain relevant in the system. They are Any-Government- In-Power (AGIP). They are serial blackmailers and specialists in Pull Him Down Syndrome or Project.

Unfortunately, some of the professionals especially from Enugu North Senatorial Zone, who were brought into government by Governor Ugwuanyi joined these political saboteurs in working against the governor and the PDP in the 2023 elections that saw PDP losing almost all the National Assembly seats in Enugu State for the first time since 1999.

During the elections, it was obvious that PDP members and leaders were also Labour Party members in Enugu State especially in Enugu North Senatorial Zone, where majority of them bought into Barr. Edeoga’s governorship project being championed by the former Minister, Chief John Nnia Nwodo and some members of the moribund Nsukka General Assembly under the phantom Nsukka agenda.

Yes, while it is true that the bandwagon effect of Mr. Obi’s presidential ambition and direct involvement of the Catholic priests in the project contributed to the PDP’s defeat in the Presidential/National Assembly elections in Enugu State, many PDP members and leaders displayed divided loyalty in the elections and others worked outrightly for Labour Party with the forlorn hope and political miscalculations that Labour Party will win everything so that they can defect and be rewarded and recognized.

It is indeed regrettable that the PDP leaders, government appointees, and party members collected logistics for the elections and used them to work for Labour Party victory in the polls while masquerading as loyal PDP members.

They became more daring and emboldened after the Presidential/National Assembly elections, especially in the Enugu North Senatorial Zone. The ex-Minister, Nwodo, was their rallying point.

Many PDP members and leaders who were initially doubtful of the success of the Labour Party members’ chain of conspiracies against Governor Ugwuanyi and the PDP became more convinced of Labour Party victory in the governorship election after the Presidential/National Assembly elections.

Ex-Minister, Nwodo, and his counterpart, Prof. Barth Nnaji hoodwinked and deceived some PDP saboteurs and supporters into Barr. Edeoga’s governorship project with the express assurance that it was a done deal.

Unknowingly and unfortunately for these PDP saboteurs, who pretended to be loyal PDP members going by their antecedents in the party, the PDP leadership and Campaign Council adopted different approaches to the prosecution of the Governorship/State Assembly elections.

Even at that, they did everything possible to scuttle the PDP victory in the governorship election in favour of the Labour Party. They were strongly opposed and countered by genuine and committed PDP loyalists and Ndi Enugu who worked diligently for the victory of the PDP in the governorship election.

So annoying and worrisome is the fact that since Mr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of the PDP was announced the winner of the governorship election by INEC, these shameless and sycophantic PDP saboteurs have been running over him with unsolicited visits, gossips, congratulatory messages, adverts, calls, texts and praises.

They were so visible at Mbah’s collection of Certificate of Return event and at the reception that followed after at The Base Event Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu.

In their sycophantic, diabolical and eye service style of unprincipled life in the name of politics, they are after Mbah because of his victory at the polls and what they will benefit from him, not for the love they have for him or the PDP or for the development of the state and wellbeing of Ndi Enugu.

Mbah and Enugu PDP should be wary of them. The 2023 elections in Enugu are an eye opener, especially to the PDP. A lot has changed, and going forward, PDP in Enugu State must cleanse itself of saboteurs.

Doing so will serve as a deterrent to others who will contemplate such sabotage in the future. No PDP saboteurs should be spared irrespective of his or her status. They should be given the backseat and made to openly join the opposition they worked for in the 2023 elections.

No sentiment or emotion should be attached to the punishments that will be meted to them. This is because they would have done the same or worse had it been the Labour Party won the governorship election.

The best post-mortem of 2023 elections Enugu State PDP will do is to purge themselves of saboteurs and traitors in their midst immediately. They are known and not hidden. The results of the elections and their actions before, during, and after the elections exposed their hypocrisy, sabotage, double-standing, and betrayal against the PDP in Enugu State.
