NACESS: The National Council of Enugu State Students Officially Unveils Her National Secretariat, Restates Commitment To The Development of a Greater and Robust Enugu State Student Community

The journey to a greater and revamped student community began on February 6th, 2020 when the 15-member national executive council of the National Council of Enugu State Students (NACESS-WW) was inaugurated at the Enugu College of Education Technical (ESCET).

The newly inducted council was led by her National president, Amb. Hon. Comr. Onah  Joseph Onyeamaechi (JP).

It will be recalled that in his inaugural speech, the renowned student’s leader who is committed to the advancement of the indigenous student body stated that his administration would strive to change the narrative and make sure that the council is returned to her glory days using all capacity available to its administration.

This can be seen to be evident as once again the leadership of NACESS officially launched its council secretariat on the 22nd of December, 2021 with address at No 174, upper chime, sabbath bus stop, New Haven, Enugu State.

In his address to the teeming students and leaders of the state present at the launching, Comr. Onah Joseph stated that its administration’s greatest nightmares have been how to deliver a better representation to all indigenous students of the state (ENUGU STATE) in the best way possible as well as to protect her general welfare and safety.

Also to provide an adequate learning environment in the various geographical location they may find themselves.

He described the secretariat as one of the finest gifts of NACESS to her members and indigenous students spread across the nation and various countries at large.

The President on behalf of the entire Enugu students community commended the support, selflessness, and commitment of the leadership of the state most especially her Grand Patron/Executive Governor and the most students’ friendly governor in the country, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Dr. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his fatherly role and benevolence towards the entire students of the state.

This has been shown through his provision and promises made which are audible to the deaf and visible to the blind as to how his administration has fulfilled everyone it has made.

Most recently, in prioritizing that the students have an official office/secretariat to coordinate as well as efficient carrying out her activities for the betterment of all and sundry. He also appreciated all the members of its leadership structure for accepting to serve the state students’ community selflessly.

Summarising the terms of operation of the secretariat, Comrade Onah said though the task ahead is huge and demanding, it is basically for;

1. Training of fresh secondary school graduates of the State in computer usage and other related skills.
2. A powerhouse for reaching out to the rural communities especially the indigent students across the state.
3. Coalition point for adequate and factual data as related to Tertiary Graduates, their field of specialization, and strengths (Technical know-how).
4. A communication channel between Indigenous students of the state, the government, and its people.
5. To gather and prepare background information on various issues so that government delegates can study the facts and make recommendations.
6. To aid the process of decision-making by different organs of the Council.
7. To keep the public informed about the works of NACESS.

He further made a passionate appeal to the Government of Enugu that the council is fully open for collaboration as regards the general welfare of students as well as a partnership with other well-meaning citizens of the State.

Comrade Onah thereafter took guests and other dignitaries present on a tour around the office/students secretariat while commendations were made to the Governor for his outstanding support to students in the state, with a promise to build on it which was made known through his Special Assistant on Student Affairs Hon. Comr. Chidi Illogebe.

The Paramount Ruler of Ibagwa-Nike, HRH Igwe Dr. Emmanuel O. Ugwu who was also present said he has been keeping tabs with the activities of the council and have been so far impressed by what this administration has been able to achieve. He noted that these achievements which were stated in the president’s carefully articulated speech represent a solemn social contract between the council executives with the good students/people of Enugu state. He further stated his utmost desire in building a prosperous and healthy indigenous student community that will be transformed into a vital tool in engineering a progressive Enugu state and an enviable academic hub in the South Eastern region of the country worthy of emulation by other youth groups and students of the state.
