The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to address the state of the nation’s refineries to put an end to fuel importation. Expressing concern over the continued importation of fuel under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, NANS emphasized the detrimental impact on the economy and the exacerbation of the existing forex crisis.
NANS leadership decried the persisting reliance on imported fuel, highlighting its adverse effects on the nation’s economic stability. In a statement, NANS Senate President Elvis Ekundina urged President Tinubu to take urgent action by instructing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) to initiate tangible measures for the repair of the country’s malfunctioning refineries.
Ekundina underscored the critical importance of achieving self-sufficiency in oil production, emphasizing that the continued importation of petroleum products poses a significant obstacle to Nigeria’s economic growth. The student leadership asserted that repairing the refineries is paramount to breaking the cycle of dependency on foreign countries for fuel.
