Renowned Nollywood actor, Kanayo Onyekwere Kanayo, delivered a powerful message on the significance of hard work during an online Town Hall Meeting themed “Rituals, Riches, and Realities: The Myths of Money-Making and the Dignity of Labour.” The veteran actor, famed for his roles depicting rituals in movies, took the opportunity to caution Nigerian youths against the allure of get-rich-quick schemes and rituals, emphasizing that true success is achieved through diligence and dedication.
Addressing the prevalent trend of some youths being influenced by movie portrayals to engage in dubious practices, Kanayo debunked the notion of a connection between human sacrifice and wealth. He asserted that such beliefs are unfounded and potentially harmful to individuals and society.
Sharing personal insights into his journey, Kanayo highlighted the virtues of hard work and perseverance in building a successful career and empire. He urged young people to resist the temptation of quick fixes and scams, stressing that legitimate wealth is the result of industrious efforts.
The actor recounted a pivotal moment in his financial journey, citing a significant contract with Globacom, owned by Mike Adenuga, as a turning point. The substantial income from this contract empowered Kanayo to make prudent financial choices, including building his house.
“I can say, I made a sacrifice to build that house because, at that time, I had the option of buying a brand new 2015 Range Rover. If I had bought it, today, I would have been seen as someone who was driving an old Range Rover. So, the sacrifice I made was that I left the Range Rover and completed my house. That was the sacrifice I made,” explained Kanayo.
