Obaseki Accepts Shaibu’s Apology, Calls for Unity
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has accepted the apology of his deputy, Philip Shaibu, following a period of estrangement. Obaseki called for unity and cooperation between the two leaders in order to deliver good governance to the people of Edo State.
Shaibu had tendered a public apology to Obaseki on Wednesday, September 28, 2023, for any perceived wrongdoing on his part. The apology came after several months of tension between the two leaders, which had led to speculation that Shaibu may be planning to defect to another political party.
In a statement on Thursday, September 29, 2023, Obaseki said that he had accepted Shaibu’s apology in the spirit of reconciliation and unity. He called on Shaibu to join him in focusing on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.
“I have accepted Philip Shaibu’s apology in the spirit of reconciliation and unity. I believe that we can put our differences behind us and work together to deliver good governance to the people of Edo State,” Obaseki said.
“I call on Shaibu to join me in focusing on the task ahead. We have a lot of work to do to improve the lives of our people, and we need to work together to achieve our goals.”
The reconciliation between Obaseki and Shaibu is a welcome development for Edo State. The two leaders have a long history of working together, and their experience and expertise will be invaluable in the development of the state.
