A former Minister of Steel Development in the Second Republic, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, is dead.

Charity Reporters gathered that the elder statesman died Tuesday morning in Jos, the Plateau State capital, at the age of 87.

Unongo was born on September 26, 1935, in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue state, “amidst so much controversies and mysteries that surrounded his birth”, a source had said.

He was the pioneer Secretary General of the defunct Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) and a former Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

Unongo succeeded Maitama Sule as the chairman of NEF in 2017.
