Speculation on potential dismissals has left some ministers on edge, particularly after remarks from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, suggesting that those not actively supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda may be at risk, with concerns mounting as hints of changes on the horizon.

Criticism of the current cabinet has surfaced, with many observers pointing out that some ministers secured their positions through political connections rather than qualifications.

“Expectations for a technocrat-heavy cabinet before President Bola Tinubu’s appointments have not been fully met”, critics note.

“President Bola Tinubu had aroused great expectations that his cabinet would predominantly consist of experts before its announcement.

Insider information reveals that prior to his two-week absence in the United Kingdom, President Tinubu tasked Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination and leader of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit, to evaluate the ministers’ performance.

A source mentioned that Mrs. Usman’s assessment of ministerial effectiveness has been meticulous, noting, “Some ministers have expressed anxiety and tried to sway her through lobbying, but she remains steadfast. Esteemed for her strictness and diligence during her tenure as Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority.’”

The source highlighted that the President plans to rejuvenate his cabinet with fresh talent in order to effectively carry out the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Furthermore, President Tinubu reportedly conducted a lengthy meeting with Mrs. Usman at his Aso Rock office on Monday.

Also in attendance were Zaccheus Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Special Adviser on Revenue, along with Engr. Dave Umahi, the Minister for Works. Earlier, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had discussions with the President.

A source within the presidential circle indicated that an announcement about the cabinet reshuffle is anticipated by the conclusion of the week.

A Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting is planned for Wednesday. It might serve as a farewell gathering for ministers, but only if the President doesn’t postpone the announcement.
