Son Of Top Politician In Enugu Associated With Gun Crimes In Enugu State, Family Makes Moves To Dash Ongoing Investigations

Charity Reporters learned of ongoing efforts by Ejigi’s family to undermine the case.

Ejigi Atigwe, son of former Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. David Atigwe, is reportedly supplying weapons to armed robbers and kidnappers.

David is the older brother of Hon. Simon Atigwe, who recently lost his seat in the House of Representatives to Dennis Agbo of the Labour Party after a Court of Appeal ruling on the rerun election for Udenu/Igboeze North Federal Constituency.

Suspect Emzor, arrested for robbery and kidnapping in Igboeze North and the Nsukka zone, implicated Egiji during interrogation with security agents.

In a video interrogation and confessional statement obtained by Charity Reporters on Wednesday, the suspect disclosed the names of his gang associates.

In the 4-minute, 7-second video, the suspect kneels during interrogation by the Enugu State Neighbourhood Watch group, conducted in the local dialect.

In the video, the suspect claimed they rent weapons, including a double-barreled shotgun, from Egiji Atigwe, who has subsequently fled.

“How much did you collect from that individual?” the policeman inquired.

The suspect responded hesitantly, “I’m not certain, but I received N35,000 as my share. Egiji handles the financial arrangements.”

The suspect informed the police that Egiji distributes the proceeds of crime among gang members.

The suspect, who was tortured with his hands handcuffed behind his back, named one Star Boy and Cobra as members of the gang.

Efforts made by Charity Reporters to speak with the Enugu State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful since the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, did not answer their calls.

As of the time of filing this report, he had not yet replied to the text message sent to him seeking his comment.

Meanwhile, Charity Reporters gathered that there are ongoing moves by Ejigi’s family to dash the case.

“It seems as if the state government has intervened in the matter, as the commissioner for finance, Mr Urama, who is from same area with the Atigwe’s has visited the Enugu- Ezike divisional police to request the police in the area to do a thorough investigation on the matter,” a source disclosed to Charity Reporters.
