The Super Eagles’ international friendly against Saudi Arabia in Portugal on Friday ended in a 2-2 draw, and coach Jose Peseiro attributed the team’s inability to secure more than two goals to a deficiency in killer instinct among their strikers. Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities and enjoying possession dominance, the Nigerian team couldn’t capitalize on their chances.

Coach Jose Peseiro, a Portuguese native, expressed his disappointment with the team’s lack of a cutting edge during the match. He noted that although the Super Eagles had a wealth of chances, their strikers failed to convert them into goals. This deficiency in the final third proved to be a significant factor in the outcome of the game.

The encounter with Saudi Arabia mirrored a similar scenario from 13 years prior, when the two teams faced off in another friendly match. Once again, the teams couldn’t be separated, ending in a draw. The Green Falcons managed to secure a late equalizer from a free-kick, the ball taking a deflection off Calvin Bassey.

Peseiro emphasized the need for the team to enhance their finishing skills. Sharpening their ability to convert chances into goals will be a focal point in the team’s preparations for future matches. The coach’s assessment underscores the significance of clinical finishing in achieving positive results.

Coach Jose Peseiro’s candid evaluation highlights an area of improvement for the Super Eagles. Developing a killer instinct in front of goal will be crucial in ensuring success in upcoming matches. The team will likely focus on refining their finishing skills in training sessions to capitalize on future scoring opportunities.
