The former Vice President recalled that 63 years ago when Nigeria acquired independence, it was based on the promise of abundant prosperity and the principle of social justice.

The former President Goodluck Jonathan; ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; and the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi among others, have expressed optimism that the country has the capacity to overcome its challenges in its 63rd independence anniversary.

In his goodwill message to Nigerians, the Senate President, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, acknowledged the challenges facing the country, but added that Nigeria was currently on the pathway to rediscovery.

As we reminiscence on our 63 years as a country it is tempting to allow present economic and security considerations to becloud the triumphs of our nationhood “said Akpabio”.

Jonathan, who specifically appealed to Nigerians in a goodwill message through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, encouraged them not to despair but to remain committed to the task of charting a more progressive path for a greater tomorrow.

Atiku lamented that the anniversary was coming at a time when the country was at a crossroads in many aspects of national lives.

As a nation, we have continued to struggle to manifest the dreams of our founding fathers in upholding the promises of shared prosperity and social justice.

Obi urged Nigerians not to despair over the agonising situation in the country after 63 years of nationhood, adding that citizens should be hopeful that a new Nigeria was possible.

On his part, the Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support the administration of President Tinubu and all state governments in their efforts to birth a new, prosperous Nigeria.
