 Police Constable Dismissed and Prosecuted for Raping Detained Minor in Benue State

In a distressing incident, a constable of the Benue State Police Command, identified as Belasa Iyange, has been dismissed from the force for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl who was in detention. The incident occurred at the Divisional Police headquarters in Tse Agbaragba, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

While the minor was in detention, Constable Iyange, under the pretense of assisting her, entered the female cell. Once inside, he took advantage of the situation and subjected the girl to sexual intercourse against her will.

The victim, showing tremendous courage, reported the harrowing incident to the Divisional Police Officer, leading to immediate action against the constable.

Legal Proceedings:

The case was swiftly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. Constable Iyange now faces prosecution at the Magistrate’s Court in Makurdi, underscoring the gravity of the offense.

Police Command Response:
