They admitted that no one had remembered them for a long while and were happy to receive the token sent by Akueme as a show of love and to cushion hardship

But for Christians with strong faith, giving is a reflex action that demonstrates our thankfulness and gratitude for what God has done.

When we give generously and sacrificially, it’s not because God needs anything, but because we want to show our love for him. Giving is an expression of obedience, yes, but also of gratitude, trust, and increasing joy. God seeks out and recognizes those who worship him.

Bible verses about giving tell us to be “cheerful” when we give and not to do so reluctantly.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV)

It is on the above premise, in observation of the Lenten period which calls for deep reflection and commitment to God and Humanity, and as well as a way of cushioning the current hardship and over 100% hike in commodities, that Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme directed his Nigeria team of The Maurice Akueme Foundation, led by Amb. Chris Enemoh to visit and Palliate the good people of Eke in Udi Local Government.

The aim is to show love and put smiles on the faces of these people and environs.

The beneficiaries were practically grateful and prayed for Chief Maurice Emeka Akueme. They admitted that no one had remembered them for a long while and were happy to receive the token sent by Akueme as a show of love and to cushion hardship.

Recall that during the Covid-19 period, The Maurice Akueme Foundation was absolutely outstanding in sharing of palliatives, this earned the President/Founder the Tittle – Njikokamma Enugu State, awarded by Ohaneze Ndigbo, which translates to togetherness, unity and oneness.

Also recall that Njikokamma had built and commissioned an edifice for a widow in Nenwenta through his MAF Widows Welfare Scheme, placed her on monthly stipends and her children under the MAF scholarship scheme. These feat as well earned him another prestigious title – “Ojiûlôemeôgô”, conferred on him by HRH, Igwe S.I. Amah and the good people of Nenwenta.

Over 100 families were as well palliated during Christmas and new year celebrations of 2023/2024 respectively.

What is Lent ?

Lent (Latin: Quadragesima, ‘Fortieth’) is the solemn Christian religious observance in the liturgical year commemorating the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, before beginning his public ministry. Lent is usually observed in the Catholic, Lutheran, Moravian, Anglican, United Protestant and Orthodox Christian traditions, among others. Some Anabaptist, Baptist, Methodist, Reformed (including certain Continental Reformed, Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches), and nondenominational Christian churches also observe Lent, although many churches in these traditions do not.

Three traditional practices to be taken up with renewed vigour during Lent; these are known as the three pillars of Lent:

> prayer (justice toward God)
> fasting (justice toward self)
> almsgiving (justice toward neighbours).
Self-reflection, simplicity, and sincerity (honesty) are emphasised during the Lenten season.
