Nigerian Regulatory Authority Seals Petrol Outlets and Gas Plant in Delta State

Six petrol retail outlets and an unauthorized gas refilling plant in Delta State’s Uvwie and Udu Local Government Areas were sealed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The closures were due to offenses including under-dispensing and lack of operational licenses.

In a significant move to enforce compliance with petroleum retailing standards, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Warri Zonal Office, took action on Tuesday by sealing six petrol retail outlets and an unlicensed gas refilling plant. The operations were conducted in Uvwie and Udu Local Government Areas of Delta State.

Led by Mr. Goziem Chukwurah, the Head of Operations in the Warri office, a surveillance team from the regulatory authority executed the closures. The affected stations were found in violation of various regulations, including under-dispensing and operating without the required licenses.

The sealed outlets in Orhuwhorun town, Udu Local Government Area, included Bwede filling station, Pius A. Idoghor Oil and Gas, Eshegbe Oil, Fetega Oil, and Sole Energy Enterprise. In Uvwie Local Government Area, Falcon Bay Oil at PTI Junction and another Falcon Bay Oil along DSC Expressway were also shut down.

This action underscores the commitment of the NMDPRA to uphold industry standards and ensure that retail outlets operate within the bounds of legality. The closures serve as a clear signal that regulatory authorities are vigilant in maintaining the integrity and safety of the petroleum downstream sector.

As the regulatory authority maintains its vigilance, stakeholders in the petroleum industry are urged to adhere strictly to established guidelines. The sealing of these outlets is a reminder that compliance is non-negotiable in safeguarding the interests of both businesses and consumers within the petroleum sector.
