The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu Students Union Government (SUG) election which was conducted on October 19, 2022, turned out to be a keenly contested election.

Observers who came around to ensure that the election was free, fair and credible ranged from the representatives of the National Council of Enugu State Students (NACESS) and the representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) .

A correspondent of CharityReporters covered the event which also aired live on its Facebook page ‘Charity Reporters‘.

The election turnout was very massive as all students of the institution filed out in their numbers to participate.

High Chief Tony Ugwoke, the Dean, Student Affairs who was in charge of the entire process, was on ground from morning till late evening, to ensure the credibility of the election must be commended for doing a wonderful job, leading the electoral commission, this proves that this institution has hard working staff at its disposal.

The Dean Student Affairs ensured that the IMT SUG election 2022 process was a success as he kept supervision of the entire election process, he was seen giving issuing directives to all involved.

Due to the Dean’s resilience, a hitch free election was first recorded in the history of IMT enugu.

It is safe to argue that the potency of elections in serving as viable means of holding governments accountable in any functional democratic setting depends on whether they are free, fair and credible. The management of IMT has therefore set a standard for the elected persons, giving this group of youths a standard to build a future.

Observers, which consisted the leadership of of NACESS, NANS, and other external observers who filled the arena in separate interviews, lauded the Dean, Student Affairs, High Chief Tony Ugwoke for conducting the most credible, free elections in the history of IMT since inception, in the administration of Prof Austin Uchechukwu Nweze.

In an interview, a representative of the National Council Of Enugu State Students, Comr. Onah Joseph Onyemaechi, was quoted saying that the Rector has proven to the world and Nigerians that he is capable of overseeing bigger political election and positions.

In another interview, a representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Comr. Nwobodo Emmanuel Chinonso, also commended the entire process, he recommended that both the Rector and the Dean should be considered for higher elective or appointive opportunities, since they have proven to be the dream leader the youths and indeed Nigerians desire.

In a separate interview, The Dean, High Chief Tony Ugwoke appreciated His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, The Executive Governor of Enugu State for creating an enabling, safe, peaceful environment in the entire state, he also commended the Rector for setting such standard for a successful election.

While congratulating the newly elected executives, he charged them to be proactive in their dealings and to see the opportunity to serve in the student capacity as a stepping stone, he therefore urged them to remain steadfast as this prepares them for future ventures.
