Italian Man Sentenced to 24 Years for Fatal Assault on Nigerian Man in 2022

Filippo Ferlazzo, an Italian national, has been handed a 24-year jail term for the fatal assault on Alika Ogorchukwu, a Nigerian man, in July 2022. The conviction was confirmed by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

In a significant development, an Italian court has sentenced Filippo Ferlazzo to 24 years in prison for the fatal assault of Alika Ogorchukwu, a 39-year-old Nigerian man, in July 2022. The incident, which took place in a coastal city in Marche, Italy, involved an altercation that led to tragic consequences.

The assault, which resulted in the untimely death of Ogorchukwu, occurred as he was walking with crutches. Ferlazzo’s actions were met with swift legal action, and after due process, the Italian court handed down a 24-year jail term as a consequence of his role in the tragic event.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), lauded the Nigerian Mission in Rome for their dedicated pursuit of justice in this case, along with other incidents involving Nigerian citizens abroad.
