Police Keep Mum Over Raid of Justice Odili’s Residence in Abuja

The Police authorities kept a disquieting quiet Friday night after 50 of their men stormed the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court.

After initial confusion about the identity of the armed men, it was later reported that they were policemen, acting on the intelligence that ‘some illegal activities’ were going on there.

Asked a concerned Nigerian: “What illegal activities could be going on in the home of a Supreme Court justice to warrant a police raid?”

Up till midnight Friday, the police were yet to explain the reason for their action.

It is also not clear what the policemen took away after a search of the house.

One of the concerned Nigerians was Governor Nyesom Wike, who raced to the house to find out what happened.

Justice Mary Odili, 69, is the wife of a two-term Governor of Rivers State Dr Peter Odili.

She was appointed justice of the Supreme court in 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan.

She is said to be the most senior justice after the incumbent chief justice.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has denied that it’s operatives were behind the raid on Justice Odili’s Residence.
