Diesel Suppliers And Generator Dealers Allegedly Sabotage Efforts For Steady Electricity Supply-Professor Bart Nnaji

Professor Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Power, has shared how diesel suppliers and generator dealers allegedly sabotage efforts for steady electricity supply in Nigeria by the federal government and power distribution companies.

According to Professor Bart Nnaji, some generator and diesel dealers approached him, claiming that he was negatively impacting their businesses. Nnaji, the founder of Geometric Power, identified these dealers as obstacles for power generation in Nigeria.

According to the Minister, “There are two areas when you talk of cabals in the sector. The diesel suppliers and generator users.

“Nigeria is a big user of generators because of our enormous power needs and those who are in the business would not want any interruption.

Unfortunately the diesel supplying company sponsored the operation; incidentally the power cable fell on one of them who later confessed to the crime,” he said.

Nnaji revealed that diesel suppliers fear that stable power supply would harm their business. Some even approached him, claiming he was ruining their business.

He advised them to consider power generation instead. Additionally, Nnaji mentioned that like other sectors, the power sector has individuals who benefit from poor power supply.

The diesel suppliers feel that a stable power supply would destroy their business. In fact, some of them came to me that I am ruining their business and I advised them to get into a better business, maybe power generation.”

Continuing, Nnaji disclosed that like some other sectors, the power sector has some cabals who make gains from the problems of poor power supply.

He shared an example where men cut down 30KVA lines to disrupt electricity supply in the South West.
