In a strategic move towards harnessing the transformative power of accurate data, Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, has initiated collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The aim is to secure high-quality government-owned data that will play a pivotal role in reshaping and advancing the landscape of Nigeria’s creative economy.

The Minister underscored the significance of precise data during a courtesy visit by Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician General, and other top management staff of the NBS in Abuja on Thursday. Musawa emphasized that accurate data is fundamental to fostering the growth of the creative economy, aligning with global trends recognizing the pivotal role of the creative sector in economic development.

Acknowledging the expertise of the National Bureau of Statistics, Musawa expressed her ministry’s need for comprehensive data, particularly in sub-sectors falling under its mandate. She highlighted the absence of data as a challenge and emphasized the crucial role it plays in policymaking aimed at contributing to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“Data is very essential as the ministry continues to build policies that will attract surplus to the GDP,” Musawa emphasized. The statement reflects a commitment to evidence-based decision-making and policy formulation, recognizing the role of the creative economy as a significant contributor to national economic growth.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy and the National Bureau of Statistics aligns with a broader global trend where governments increasingly rely on accurate data to inform policies that drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic diversification.
