Three Killed in Liberian Election Campaign Clashes

Three people have been killed in clashes between rival political supporters in Liberia, ahead of the country’s presidential election on October 10.

The violence broke out on Saturday in the southeastern city of Zwedru, when supporters of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) clashed.

Two people were killed in the clashes, and several others were injured. On Sunday, a third person died of their injuries in the hospital.

The Liberian National Police (LNP) said that they have arrested several people in connection with the violence. The LNP also said that they have deployed additional security forces to Zwedru to prevent further violence.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) condemned the violence and called on all political parties to ensure that their supporters campaign peacefully.

The INEC also urged the Liberian government to take steps to prevent further violence and to ensure that the election is held in a free and fair manner.

The violence in Zwedru is the latest in a series of incidents of violence that have occurred during the Liberian election campaign. In September, two people were killed in clashes between rival political supporters in the capital city of Monrovia.
