Army destroys IPOB camps, shrine, recovers corpses

Army destroys IPOB camps…..

The Nigerian Army has destroyed camps and shrine belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a forest in the Awo-Mmamma community of Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state.

The army also recovered corpses from the shrine.

The spokesperson of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, Capt. Joseph Akubuike, confirmed the operation to newsmen in Owerri in Sunday.

Akubuike said the operation was carried out based on intelligence reports that the camps were used by IPOB members to launch attacks on security forces and civilians.

He said the army recovered different types of weapons, ammunition, and other items from the camps.

Akubuike said the army was committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, and urged them to cooperate with the military to provide information on the activities of criminals.

The operation by the Nigerian Army is a welcome development. It is important to dismantle the camps of IPOB and other criminal organizations in order to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

However, it is also important to ensure that the army conducts its operations in a humane and professional manner. There have been reports of human rights abuses by the army in the past, and it is important to avoid such abuses in the future.

The Nigerian government should also work to address the root causes of the unrest in the Southeast region. This includes addressing the issue of marginalization and providing economic opportunities for the people of the region.

By taking these steps, the Nigerian government can help to bring peace and stability to the Southeast region.
