Nigerian Army Retrieves 93 Unexploded Ordnances from Ikeja Military Cantonment

In a significant operation titled ‘Exercise Clean Sweep,’ the Nigerian Army has successfully recovered 93 unexploded ordnances (UXOs), commonly referred to as bombs, at the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos. This undertaking, initiated in response to the 2002 bomb blast that shook the cantonment, aims to ensure the safety and security of the area.

The retrieved UXOs encompass a range of calibers and types, underscoring the potential threat they posed to the surroundings. Despite previous clearance and disposal efforts, remnants of UXOs have persisted, posing risks to both residents of the Cantonment and the surrounding environment.

Colonel Abdulrazaq Kazeem, the Director at the Directorate of Explosives Search and Disposal and Coordinator of Exercise Clean Sweep, delivered this update during his inaugural brief on the progress of the operation. The thoroughness of this operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to mitigating potential hazards and fortifying the safety of the Cantonment and its inhabitants.

The recovery of these UXOs serves as a testament to the vigilance and dedication of the Nigerian Army in safeguarding the well-being of the community. As the operation continues, the Army’s efforts are expected to yield a safer environment for all within and around the Ikeja Military Cantonment.
