Atiku Abubakar Raises Alarm: APC Under Tinubu Plans to Impose One-Party State, Alleges Takeover of Courts and INEC

Atiku Abubakar Raises Alarm…..

Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concern over the alleged plans of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine Nigeria’s democracy. In a statement issued through his Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu of orchestrating actions aimed at imposing a one-party state on the country.

Atiku highlighted the purported appointment of Tinubu’s loyalists as Resident Electoral Commissioners, a move confirmed by Senator Godswill Akpabio, whom Atiku referred to as Tinubu’s “lackey.” He criticized the narrowing of opposition engagement through alleged electoral malpractices and biased court decisions, suggesting that democracy in Nigeria is facing significant challenges.

The former Vice President emphasized the importance of democracy rooted in the plurality of ideas, expressing concern that opposition parties are allegedly being sidelined through electoral rigging and judicial processes favoring the ruling party. He cited controversial court decisions in states controlled by opposition parties, questioning the integrity of the electoral and judicial systems.

Atiku specifically referenced the situation in Plateau State, where he claimed that favorable outcomes for the APC in court were reminiscent of the party’s strategies in Lagos State, where opposition became marginalized. He accused Tinubu of employing crude methods to reduce the ranks of the opposition and consolidate power.

Drawing attention to the judicial process, Atiku questioned the consistency of court decisions, particularly in cases where the APC did not secure victory in the elections but was later declared the winner by the courts. He echoed concerns raised by others, including legal expert Femi Falana, about the perceived decline in the integrity of Nigeria’s judiciary.

In conclusion, Atiku stressed the need for vigilance to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as an APC onslaught. He called on individuals of good conscience to unite in defending democratic principles and institutions against alleged attempts to manipulate the political landscape.
