In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has successfully mediated the prolonged political crisis in Ondo State, bringing an end to months of discord. Late on Friday, the President engaged opposing factions and facilitated a resolution that emphasizes the importance of peace and the maintenance of the status quo.
Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a central figure in the dispute, pledged to foster unity among all commissioners and officials while handling the state’s affairs. The commitment to maintaining the status quo was echoed by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, who declared a halt to all impeachment moves against Aiyedatiwa.
The resolutions emerged following an extensive six-hour deliberation at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, where President Tinubu engaged with state officials, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The intervention is expected to bring stability to Ondo State, fostering a conducive environment for governance and collaboration among political stakeholders.
Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa, in expressing his commitment to unity and letting go of past grievances, stated, “I want to say that I pledge to all of you that I embrace every one of you. I put behind all that has happened before now. I’ve let go and also let God, just as the President has advised us.”
President Tinubu’s intervention is seen as a crucial step towards restoring political harmony and ensuring that the state government can focus on addressing the needs and aspirations of the people. The resolution emphasizes the significance of collaboration and collective efforts in navigating political challenges for the greater good of the state and its residents.
