In an event which seemed like a carnival in Oma Eke community of Udi Local Government Area, Chief Kenneth Okafor and his two sons were conferred, inaugurated and welcomed into both the Ôzô Traditional Institution and the Nzukô Ôzô Ndi Igbo Nigeria. Chief Kenneth Okafor took the title “Mmiri na-ari Ugwu” which literarily translates to “The Water that flows up the mountains”

The Ôzô Traditional Institution is the original and major pillar of Igbo authenticity. It possesses genuinely original philosophical foundations for sustainable political and socio-cultural existence of Ndi-Igbo.

Initiation into the aristocratic Nze na Ôzô society marks the person as nobility which implies that the title holder is now an Nze, also, implying a living spirit and an ancestor. One then becomes the moral conscience of the community and is seen to be a fair adjudicator in cases of disputes within the community. In times of crisis, most Igbo communities will rely on Ôzô members for leadership. Generally, in most Igbo communities, only holders of Ichi title may become candidates for Ôzô title.

In an interview during the conferment of Ôzô title on Chief Kenneth Okafor and sons, Prof. Ike Oluka who is the National President of Ôzô Ndi Igbo Nigeria, held that “virtues that are expected from an Ôzô cut across truthfulness and even-handedness in the conduct of personal and public affairs, demonstration of strength of character, leadership and reliability in inter personal relationship; maintenance of peace between self, God and Ancestors; having capacity for good judgment and demonstrable honesty in the process of gradual acquisition of wealth; Upholding of the “Ôfô” and abhorrence of crime and evil particularly acts of theft and treachery, etc.

Ôzô Ekpereazo Odeh, the head of Ndî Ôzô in Eke Town expressed satisfaction towards the conferment of Ôzôship title on Ôzô Kenneth Okafor and sons, he described the event as a fortunate and deserving one, he also described culture as the bedrock of the Igbo existence and vowed to continue to promote the Igbo culture and traditions in every positive and impactful manner.

Also describing the event, Ôzô Ihe-elozorulote-mgba, the leader of Ndî Ôzô in Ôma Eke said that everything done by the title holder and his sons were complete and accepted, he said Okafor deserves the title because he is a known philanthropist with very decent background.

In appreciation, the host and title holder, Ôzô Kenneth Okafor, while thanking the people who came to witness the event, also prayed for safe trip back to their various destinations. He expressed happiness and satisfaction over the entire processes and vowed to continue to uphold the Igbo culture and traditions in the most Godly-humanity manner. He pledged to represent the identity of his title; “Mmiri na-ari ugwu n’Eke.

High profiled members of the society, including political stalwarts, traditional practitioners, profiled members of the Ôzô Traditional Institution, etc honored the event.
