The labour movement and the government had failed to reach an agreement

The executives of Nigerian Labour Unions on Monday evening arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital, for a second meeting to avert the planned strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Recall the CharityReporters reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria had resolved to embark on indefinite nationwide strike which was planned to commence on October 3, 2023.

This comes after a joint press briefing held by the leaders of the unions in Abuja last Tuesday.

The labour movement and the government had failed to reach an agreement on the best way to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and the attendant hardship in the country on Nigerians.

In a video made posted on X by Nigerian Television Authority(NTA), the organized labour leaders were seen in their tens walking into the meeting venue.

It will be the second time the government and the labour unions leaders would be meeting to have resolution on the issues surrounding the planned industrial action.

The representatives of the Nigerian government, had on Sunday, met with the executives of organised labour at the Presidential Villa to resolve the same issue.
