Peter Obi’s Call for Better Salaries and Recognition for Teachers

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has emphasized the importance of valuing and adequately compensating teachers. In a social media post on World Teachers’ Day, Obi urged the government to prioritize timely payment of teachers’ salaries, recognizing their crucial role in nation-building.

Obi stressed that teachers are instrumental in human capital development, which forms the foundation of societal progress. He emphasized that genuine development in any society hinges on the significant contributions of educators.

The former Governor of Anambra State credited the successes in the education sector during his tenure to the dedication and commitment of teachers. He also called for government intervention in privately-owned schools to ensure that teachers receive equitable compensation.
